Following their formation in 2018 by musical director Axel Kaner-Lidstrom, Levitation Orchestra has earned a reputation as a visionary artistic collective, whose dynamic live shows have built a following which stretches beyond the UK jazz scene and across genres.

The group has developed a uniquely egalitarian approach to creativity, and their “ultimate disregard for any boundaries” has allowed them to create a perfect blend of their diverse musical influences.

Inspirations range from Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra to Stravinsky and Ravel, , all blended in the mixing pot of London's heritage of sound-system musics. Expect cinematic landscapes and emotions mixed with all the energy of the vibrant new London jazz scene.

  • Emma Barnaby

    Emma is an audio producer and sound designer based in London. She makes long-form narrative audio documentaries for the likes of Audible and the BBC. She plays the cello with Levitation Orchestra, Fen, Astrid Sonne, WOOM, Jerkcurb, and more.

  • Leif Kaner-Lidström

    On the classical scene, Leif regularly performs internationally with mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, saxophonist Jess Gillam and his father and cellist Mats Lidström. On the non-classical scene, Leif performs under the pseudonym Eriksson Kaner, most recently releasing the debut record 'Ithaca' in collaboration with drummer Sascha Create.

  • Ayodeji Ijishakin

    Deji aka XVNGO is a pioneering saxophonist and producer, at the forefront of the Jazz Drill and Post-Trap genres. These constitute a fusion of classical, trap, jazz, drill, hip-hop and electronic forms of music. XVNGO’s music also reflects the intellectual conundrums of times both past and present. Ranging all the way from modern neuroscience to ancient philosophical dilemmas. He Also plays with Joe Armon-Jones, Tara Lily and KOKOROKO.

  • Harry Ling

    Harry Ling, a.k.a. Mackwood, is a London-based drummer and producer behind projects such as Levitation Orchestra, Charlie Stacey and Nardeydey. An emerging alumnus of the acclaimed Tomorrow’s Warriors and Guildhall Jazz programs, he can be found collaborating frequently with the musicians behind Moses Boyd, Steam Down, Yussef Dayes, Arlo Parks and many more.

  • Paris Raine

    Paris Raine is a musician from the blissful village Shoreham where Blake once walked in ancient times. He takes his influence from the sublime, the mysterious, the romantic, the ethereal and spiritual. Paris plays and performs in projects such as Levitation Orchestra; the progressive electronic outfit PÆN and is a composer of chamber music including scores for the award winning Seagull by Ned Caderni.

  • Maria Osuchowska

    Maria is a Polish born harpist and an active member in a other musical collectives, including Sawa Manga and Calabashed. She’s a long term collaborator of poet Ma.Moyo. Their compositions layer sound-harp-scapes with spoken word and explore various landscapes on the themes of heritage, nature & womanhood. Her solo project, Marysia Osu combines electronic elements and music production with her instrument, resulting in a collage of harp, beats and dreams.

  • Hamish Nockles Moore

    Hamish Nockles Moore is a British bassist and composer. A member of Levitation Orchestra, Softpower, Nu Civilisation Orchestra, Steve Williamson Ttrio, Nye Banfield Quartet, Hypernova, Lobsters of the Mantle and other groups. Some of Hamish’s biggest influences have been Steven Lehman, Jimmy Garrison and Danny Thompson.

  • Axel Kaner-Lidström

    Axel is a creative facilitator, and trumpet player. Born in London to a Swedish father and an English mother, both of who are classical cellists. Although raised in a classically orientated family, Jazz and collective music-making enthralled Axel after working with Sun Ra influenced creative ensemble, The Impossibilities Arkestra under the aegis of Paul Griffiths. This experience led him to dedicate himself to the community/workshop model of making music. Axel also plays with Cykada, Gary Bartz, Where Pathways Meet, and Celeste.

  • James Akers

    James Akers is a Saxophonist and composer from the UK. He performs regularly with Levitation Orchestra, Eriksson Kaner x Sascha Create and Jelly Cleaver and has also performed several times with Etuk Ubong and the Neue Grafik Ensemble. Some of the artists he loves most are Pharoah Sanders, Sonny Rollins, Jan Garbarek and Hayao Miyazaki.

  • Plumm

    A hybrid vocalist, multi-instrumentalist & producer hailing from South London with Welsh heritage, Plumm is an eccentric live performer whose shows evolve through her ever-rotating live band, one-women pedal show and part in larger collectives such as Levitation Orchestra. She has performed alongside the likes of Moses Boyd & Taylor McFerrin, is a Year 6 Future Bubbler and recently sold out two Jazz Cafe headline shows.

  • Lluís Domènech Plana

    Lluís Domènech Plana is a Catalan flautist and producer. Starting his journey in classical music Lluís has always been keen on experimenting with different formats and genres with an especial affinity for Dub and Reggae music. A member of Levitation Orchestra, Margomool and Zurito, Lluís records and works regularly for artists by the likes of Liam Bailey, Daddy Freddy, Shumba Youth, Sleepy Time Ghost, Shivum Sharma.
